As one of the country's newest national parks, Los Quetzales National Park, offers more astounding sights and experiences for its visitors.

Formerly called Reserva los Santos, the park has several features which are sure to leave its visitors breathless. Los Quetzales National Park stretches along Rio Savegre near Manuel Antonio, making it a prime spot to view the marvelous Costa Rican flora and fauna. It was declared a national park in July 2005 and has since welcomed visitors from all parts of the world.

Los Quetzales National Park covers three rainforests and 14 ecosystems, making it one of the most biologically diverse places tourists could visit in the country. Being the home of the Cordillera de Talamanca, Los Quetzales National Park reaches the altitude of up to 3000 meters. The majestic mountains provide an astounding glacial backdrop for the park, making it one of the most beautiful locations in Costa Rica. The Savegre area is also one of the most important biological areas in Costa Rica, as 20% of local flora and fauna are found in this location.

Unlike other places in the country, the area is abundant in green and red quetzal, a rare and colorful tropical bird found in Central America. The birds are known for their bright colors and long tails. Another avian feature in the Los Quetzales National Park is the colibri, a bird that builds cone-shaped nests. While walking in the park, guests are bound to encounter a few charming hummingbirds, known to dart in and about the area, as if welcoming tourists and asking them about their stay in Costa Rica. Other magnificent creatures to behold in Los Quetzal National Park are the pumas, sloths, tapirs, black guans, squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and coyotes.

Los Quetzales National Park is not short on adventure, as it features several terrains sure to have something for every adventurer. The area's different altitudes shapes Los Quetzales National Park's seven regions into an adventure filled place. From a gentle trickling stream to a rapids fit for a fantastic time in rafting, water sports are also a feature in this side of Costa Rica.

From Jaco, Los Quetzales National Park is a two-hour travel. It would be an easier travel if visitors go to the park taking the Manuel Antonio route. Being a relatively new national park, Los Quetzales is not yet fully staffed, but the park is committed at giving the best service to its guests.
